Welcome to the city

Caesars yellowed fingers couldn't stop fidgeting with the medals on his uniform.

"All I'm saying Godmother is that we don't have to take this from anyone, least of all those bloated, self-important fuckers! We worked this since the beginning. They have no right to just waltz in here and turn shit-hole upside down. Fuck, this isn't even their juris-fucking-diction! Since when do they handle secular matters?"

"Calm yourself Caesar. There's nothing we can do about it now. The only one who can throw them out is the Regent herself and the Prisci block..."

"Fuck the Regent! She hasn't even shown her face in a decade!"

"CAESAR!" The godmothers childlike hands slapped the antique, solid oak desk. It cracked in several places. "I will not tolerate such treasonous words! Do I need to remind you of your place?"

Caesars fingernails tapped against silver plated pewter. A dying heartbeat.

"No... no Godmother, I apologise. Please excuse my temper. I... I spoke out of turn."

"I will pretend you never said that."

"Thank you Godmother. Your mercy knows no bounds."

"Caesar, you have to understand that what happened here was unprecedented. A whole clan was murdered. Secular or not, this is something the Inquisition will be interested in. There is nothing we can do to stop them. All we can do is our job. Now, about that rat you uncovered..."
